Anime is a style of Japanese film that is typically aimed toward adults and children. For decades, anime was produced by and for Japan. It was a local product, with a distinct look-and-feel not just to the artwork but the storytelling, the themes, and the concepts. Now, people all around the world love anime. People sometimes say that anime is a genre, but there aren’t many genres in the artwork style of anime. Every anime you watch, most of them have epic story lines and great characters. Let’s take a look at a few options out there that students enjoy.

Attack on Titan can be categorized as  action, dark fantasy, apocalyptic ,and post-apocalyptic fiction. Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. It is set in a world where people hope not to die every day. They are scared of the humanoid beings called Titans, and they are protected by 3 giant walls created by the founding Titan. The story follows Eren Yeager, who swears to kill all Titans after his hometown was destroyed and his mother eaten. The anime came out April 7th 2013, and there have been 4 seasons, with great reviews for all 4. Each and every scene left you on the edge of your seat. 

“I like how there is a lot of character building in the show,” Najib Ibrahim said. 

Freshman Kelly Mendoza said, “I like Attack on Titan because it is not like traditional anime.” 

Black Clover is an adventure fiction and fantasy genre type anime. The story centers around Asta, a young boy born with no magical powers. This is basically unheard of in the wizard world. With his partners in the group, Black Bulls, Asta plans to become the next Wizard King. Black Clover is an ongoing anime, so they are still making episodes, and every time there is a new episode viewers can’t wait to sit down and watch. Ever since they made the anime at the beginning of October of 2017, there have been mixed reviews. 

“I  like that the main character is relatable and he turns out to be very strong,”  Ibrahim said.

“Black Clover is an exact replica of Naruto,” said Jaiya Vu.

Hunter x Hunter is an adventure, action, fantasy anime. The story focuses on a young boy named Gon Freecss who discovers that his father, who left him at a young age, is a world-renowned hunter. Gon departs on a journey to become a Hunter and eventually find his father. Along the way Gon makes many friends and fights many monsters and the paranormal. The Hunter x Hunter series was adapted into an anime twice, unlike many other series. The first time it was adapted into anime was in October 1999 to March 2001, the second time it was reanimated so it had better graphics; this happened in July 2011 to September 2014.

The Shonen Anime series Attack on Titan, Black Clover, and Hunter x Hunter are the top three Shonen anime because they have strong relatable characters, they also have good animations, and finally they are all very different from one another. So if you want a good anime to watch, one that will keep you on the edge the whole time, you should probably watch Attack on Titan or Black Clover. If you want an anime that builds up to a climax multiple times, you should watch Hunter x Hunter.
